The best Omegle alternatives in 2026, and how to pick one

Omegle closed in November 2023. Plenty of sites stepped in. Most of them do the same basic thing, so the useful question is not “which is best” but “which one fits the way I want to chat.” That changes everything. Below are seven that are running today, what each one asks of you, and what each one does differently. Nothing here is sponsored, nobody paid to be included, and the one site we do have a stake in, our own, is labelled clearly so you can weigh what we say about it accordingly.

If you only read this box

  • No account, straight to video: Chatroulette, Thundr or Omigo Chat.
  • Want to filter who you meet: Emerald Chat (paid filters) or OmeTV (country choice).
  • Prefer an app: OmeTV, Chatroulette or Monkey.
  • Need an icebreaker: Bazoocam’s mini-games.

Seven sites still doing random video in 2026

Every site here was opened and checked in October 2026. All seven still work. We only describe what each service says about itself on its own homepage. Order is not a ranking; we put our own site first so you know where it is and can skip past it. That also means the order of the cards tells you nothing about quality, and if you are scanning for one specific thing, like whether a site will make you hand over an email address before the first match, the table further down is the faster way to find it.

  1. 01

    Omigo Chat

    Our site

Good for: Quick one-on-one video in a browser tab

This is our site, so read this entry with that in mind. Omigo Chat does one thing: it puts you on a video call with one stranger, from a browser tab, without a registration form in the way.

Camera and microphone are requested when you match, not on the first screen. Next unlocks a few seconds into a call, and you can hang up any time. You can also send text messages. There is no group or party mode.

    Account
    No sign-up form to start
  2. 02

    Chatroulette

Good for: The closest thing to the 2009 original

Chatroulette has been running since 2009, so it predates nearly everything else here, and its homepage says you can start without an account: you allow the camera, tick a box confirming you are 18 or older, agree to its terms, and you are matched with someone straight away.

A text-only mode is there for days when you would rather type than be on camera. There are apps on the App Store and Google Play as well.

Browser, plus iOS and Android apps
    Account
Not needed to start (per its site)
  3. 03

    OmeTV

Good for: Meeting people from a specific country

OmeTV describes itself as a free random video chat and points mobile users to its Google Play and App Store apps.

Two features stand out on its homepage: you can choose which country to meet people from, and messages can be translated inside the chat. Useful if you want to practise a language.

    Runs in
Browser, plus iOS and Android apps
    Account
    Check at start
  4. 04

    Thundr

Good for: Picking between video and text before you start

Thundr pitches itself as one-on-one video or text chat with zero sign-up. In practice that means you choose the mode first and then get matched.

If some nights you want to type and other nights you want to talk, it covers both from the same page.

    Runs in
    Browser
    Account
    Zero sign-up (per its site)
  5. 05

    Emerald Chat

Good for: Matching on shared interests

Emerald Chat asks you to create an account before you chat, with an email address or a Google or Facebook login, and in return it matches people by the interests they share, offers both text and video, and runs group channels for people who prefer talking in a crowd.

Its homepage says subscription tiers unlock gender, country and language filters, so the free version and the paid one behave differently.

Account required (email, Google or Facebook)
  6. 06

    Monkey

Good for: Phone-first users who don’t mind a social login

Monkey asks for a one-tap social login before you start; its FAQ says this is there to keep bots out.

Android users are pointed to the app, while iPhone and desktop users get a web version.

    Bazoocam

Good for: Breaking the ice with a small game

Bazoocam is a long-running European site.

It lets you play small games such as Tetris or tic-tac-toe with the person on the other side, and it can pair you with people near you.

Side by side: where it runs, account, extras

The same facts as above, flattened into one table. Scroll sideways on a phone. If you are deciding between two or three of them, the account column is usually the one that settles it, since some people are happy to log in with an existing Google or Facebook account to get filters and matching by interest, while others would close the tab the moment a login box appeared, and neither of those preferences is wrong.

“Check at start” means the site’s homepage does not say either way. Policies change, so look again before you rely on any row.

We left out prices on purpose. Paid tiers on these sites change often, differ by country and platform, and are usually only fully explained once you are inside the app, so any number we printed here would likely be wrong within a few months.

Pick by what you actually need

People who miss Omegle usually miss one specific thing about it. Work out which one, and the choice gets short. For some it was the total lack of setup, for others the chance of landing on someone from a country they had never visited, and for a surprising number it was simply having something to do at one in the morning when nothing else was on.

A person at a signpost choosing between browser, safety, mobile and no-account directions

“I just want to click and talk.”

Then the account question matters most. Chatroulette, Thundr and Omigo Chat all let you begin without filling in a form. Of the three, Omigo Chat is video-only and one-on-one, Thundr lets you pick text or video up front, and Chatroulette lets you fall back to text mid-session.

“I want to meet people like me.”

Random means random. If you want shared interests, Emerald Chat is designed around them, though you will register first and some filters sit behind a subscription. OmeTV lets you pick a country, which is a lighter version of the same idea.

“I’m mostly on my phone.”

Everything here opens in a mobile browser. If you would rather have an icon on your home screen, OmeTV, Chatroulette and Monkey have apps. Monkey treats Android as app-first and sends iPhone users to the web.

“Talking to a stranger cold is hard.”

It honestly is for most people. Bazoocam gives you something to do together: a quick game takes the pressure off the first minute. Our talk to strangers page has openers that work on any of these sites.

Where Omigo Chat sits on this list

We built Omigo Chat for the narrowest version of the Omegle habit: open a tab, see a face, say hi. No profile to fill in first. No feed to scroll. One person at a time.

It will not suit everyone. There are no interest tags and no group rooms. If those matter, the sites above do them, and we would rather you use the one that fits. We would rather say that plainly here than have you spend twenty minutes discovering it, because the whole point of a list like this is to save you the time it takes to try every site one after another.

  • Runs in your browser on phone or laptop.
  • Camera and mic are asked for when you match.
  • Next unlocks a few seconds into a call; hang up any time.
  • Report or block someone from their profile.
  • Matched calls start with a free stretch. Before it ends, the call shows the per-minute coin rate.

Habits that keep you safe on any of them

The site matters less than how you use it. A careful person on a loosely run site is usually better off than a careless person on a strict one, because most of the risk in random chat comes from what you choose to share rather than from the software itself. These habits hold everywhere on this list.

  1. Leave out where you live, study or work, and your surname. First names are plenty.
  2. Look at what is behind you before the camera turns on. Mail, uniforms and windows give away more than people think.
  3. Do not move to another app because a stranger asks. Staying on the site keeps the report button within reach.
  4. Leave the moment something feels off. You owe nobody a reason. Skip, then report if it crossed a line.
  5. Never send money or gift cards to someone you met in a random chat. No exceptions.

Every service here is for adults. Under 18? Then this whole list is off-limits to you, and the honest advice is to close the tab, because the people you would meet on a random adult chat are not people you should be alone on camera with, however friendly the first few seem.

How this list was put together

We started from sites people actually name when they ask what replaced Omegle, then dropped anything that was down, app-only with no web version, or built mainly for adult content. That left seven.

For each one we opened the homepage in October 2026 and wrote down only what it says about itself: where it runs, whether you need an account, and what extras or paid tiers it mentions. We did not rate anyone and we did not test paid features, partly because paid features vary by country and device and partly because a list that puts a score next to every competitor is usually a list that has quietly decided who should win before the first site was even opened. No scores here. Sites change their sign-up rules often, so treat this as a starting point and check the site itself before you commit to anything.

Short version: we read their pages. If you run one of these services and something here is out of date, write to the address in the footer and we will check your homepage again and correct the entry, whichever direction the change goes.

Questions about Omegle alternatives

What is the best Omegle alternative in 2026?

There is no single winner, because the sites below make different trade-offs. If you want no account, Chatroulette, Thundr and Omigo Chat let you start without one. If you want filters by interest or language, Emerald Chat is built around that but asks you to register.

Which Omegle alternatives work with no sign-up?

Chatroulette and Thundr both say on their own sites that you can start without an account, and Omigo Chat has no sign-up form before your first match. Emerald Chat and Monkey ask you to log in first.

Did Omegle come back?

No. Omegle shut down in November 2023 and omegle.com has not reopened as a chat service. Sites that use the Omegle name today are separate services.

Are Omegle alternatives free?

Most let you start without paying, but almost every one has something paid on top, such as filters, extra features or longer calls. Read the terms on the site you pick, including what happens when a subscription renews and how to cancel it, before you buy anything at all, because those details are rarely on the homepage and they are the part people most often wish they had checked.

Which of these works best on a phone?

All of them open on a phone. OmeTV, Chatroulette and Monkey also have mobile apps. Omigo Chat, Thundr and Bazoocam run in the mobile browser, so there is nothing to install.
